The alternative four-lane road bypassing Kherki Daula Toll plaza is almost complete which will be a big relief to commuters. 98% of work on this 5 kilometre stretch on the eastern side of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway is finished. The road is built by Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), formerly documented as HUDA. The last stretch of 400 meters on this road is connecting to sectors 76-77.
According to the reports, the officials of the department are waiting for approval from the higher authorities to open the road for the commuters. “We are waiting for a dignitary or another official to open this road,” said a senior officer of the department.
Shweta Sharma, executive engineer, HSVP, said, “Minor work like road signage and painting is left which can be finished soon.” According to the reports, the workers who claimed to be from NHAI had spaded the road between 76-77 sectors on Sunday; However, the HSVP started the repairing work early this week.
Manoj Lakhani, a resident of DLF New Town Heights in Sector 90 said, “This road is a huge relief to commuters travelling to Manesar on a daily basis. Every day thousands of commuters get stuck on the toll for long hours. The authority should soon complete the pending work and open this stretch. It would also reduce our travel time as we wouldn’t have to wait in queues at the toll plaza.”
The road is expected to be functional soon but MCEPL, the concessionaire of Kherki Daula toll plaza has repeatedly objected the opening of the road bypassing toll as once it is operational; more than 16,000 cars would bypass the toll plaza daily resulting in a revenue loss in toll collection.
With the opening of the road, commuters from Golf Course road and Faridabad will be able to directly reach Manesar to SPR without dealing with the congestion on Kherki Daula toll plaza.
The residents of new sectors 80-90 are expected to get the advantage as they will directly reach Golf Course road, Sohna highway, Faridabad road and other parts of Gurugram with the need to cross the toll plaza.
The HSVP had started the work on 5 km stretch of the road, comprising 2.8km from SPR to Shikohpur Nagar and 2.2 km from Shikohpur to NH-8 in January this year. The project’s value Rs 33.69 crore. The bypass road will start from the road dividing sectors 75-75A, and meet NH-8 close to Sector 83.
