Emaar MGF supports ‘Swasth Bharat’; celebrates ‘World AIDS Day’
Organizes health camps for site workers to promote awareness about HIV/AIDS
Gurgaon, December 01, 2014: Emaar MGF Land Ltd, the leading real estate developer in India, today celebrated ‘World AIDS Day’ at its project sites to promote awareness about HIV/AIDS amongst site workers. The initiative was part of the Company’s efforts to take the ‘Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat’ (Clean India, Healthy India) campaign forward, by encouraging the idea of a healthy body, healthy workforce amongst the labourers and employees.
As per the guidelines of World Health Organization (WHO), World AIDS Day has the multi-year theme (for 2011-2015): “Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections, Zero discrimination and Zero AIDS-related deaths”.
On this occasion, Emaar MGF organized health check-up camps, awareness sessions and vaccinations for labourers at its various project sites. For this purpose, the Company collaborated with Haryana State Agencies for Aids Awareness program, Samarth NGO, and local hospitals. Workers were also encouraged to participate in various activities like Slogan, Poster & Banner making competitions and Quiz competition on AIDS awareness and safety. Prizes were given to best Health, Safety and Environment conscious performers amongst site staff and workers.
Commenting on the importance of this celebration, Mr. Baljot Gill, Vice President–Projects, Emaar MGF Land Limited, said “We at Emaar MGF believe that only a healthy society can help build a strong nation. It is through these small steps that we intend to promote awareness about health and safety amongst our workers & employees to close the access gap. Our endeavor is aimed towards creating an AIDS-free generation. It also provides us an opportunity to engage with our social partners for providing health facilities to our most important asset, our human capital.”
World AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1 every year to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and to demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic. The day is an opportunity for public and private partners to disseminate information about the status of the pandemic and to encourage progress in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care around the world, particularly in high prevalence countries.
Emaar MGF has been at the forefront of several such social initiatives in the recent past. The company, known for its premium quality projects, has also conducted activities like gift distribution to children of construction workers, blanket distribution to site labour, safety awareness campaigns, blood donation camps and tree plantation drives. It also runs mobile crèches at various project sites providing education, health and nutrition facilities to the
children throughout the day. Moreover, the Company has contributed to various relief funds for floods in Jammu & Kashmir, Uttaranchal and Orissa; and engages regularly with NGOs working in the field of disability, education and healthcare.
